Nana Okomfohemma - Ankobeahene Oparabea-Bekoe Founder of The Circle of Light Society & Ohemma Ku "Women's Rites of Passage"
Nana is founder, and practicing Okomfohemma (High priestess) of The Circle of Light Society for over thirty years and founder of Ohemma Ku Women’s Rites of Passage a division of the Circle of Light Society. A mother of six children eight grandchildren, and great grandmother of five, wife to Nana Kyedomhene Obrie Bekoe. Godmother to over fifteen priestesses and priest. Nana is a Teacher, Artist and Author of “Akom The Layered World “ and “Ohemma Ku Women’s Rites of Passage”. And is presently working on a book of traditional medicine used in rituals. Nana has the blessing of holding two significant titles Okomfohemma-High priestess to the Gods and Ankobeahene Chief to the ancestors and protection of the clan. This is an incredible blessing that comes with great responsibility, a responsibility that Nana has accepted and honored. Nana attended the City College of The City University of New York and Fordham University with an interest in abnormal psychology. And are a recent student and Reiki Master under the Usui system. In 1987 under the permission of the esteemed High Priestess Okomfohemma Nana Akua Oparebeah of the Nana Akonnedi Shrine Larteh Kubease Ghana and respectfully Okomfo Panyin Nana Nsia Dennis of Larteh. Okomfohemma Nana Oparebea Bekoe graduated as Okomfo-Priestess to the deity Nana Asuo Gyebi, In 1992 Nana Ankobeahene Oparebea Bekoe traveled to Ghana and received final graduation blessings from the Traditional Counsel of Asafo Elders of the Nana Akonnedi Shrine. The advice from the counsel of twelve Elders was “Always use your powers for good” “A good life leads to a good death, a bad life leads to a bad death ” Nana has always held this advice close to her heart. Nana returned to America to officially establish The Circle of Light Society with the blessings of the chief deity of Larteh, Nana Akonnedi and has initiated and trained many Akomfo and continues to initiate and train up to present day. In 1993 Nana was initiated and blessed by Darshan Sing. And received the blessings of the five sacred angels. In 1998 three years following the death of her beloved teacher Nana returned to Ghana to sit as interim Okomfohemma of the Nana Akonnedi shrine. It was during this time that Nana received the title of Okomfohemma. In 1999 Nana purchased land for The Circle of Light Society in the mountains of Abiriw Ghana. The beginning of what would be an ongoing dream to build the Circle of Light Society Compound in Ghana. In 2000 Nana Ankobeahene was chosen by Tufuhene Nana Asiama Bekoe of Abiriw Ghana to be Ankobeahene of the Konkonso Clan of Abiriw. She accepted and all of the rituals and rites were performed. It was during the 2002 Abiriw festival that the first Ohemma Ku Society was born. Fifty women from different backgrounds came to join Ohemma Ku (Queens Society) in Abiriw.
